Max - thanks for posting this. Even though this was a cover of Brenda K. Starr's "I Still Believe" which Mariah Carey also sung, I do really like Sandy's vocals on this track. I totally understand why she was the one singing R&B remakes or covers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment Archival Queen (if you don't mind me referring you by this name). Sandy performed her songs really well, regardless of covers or originals. Indeed often her cover songs rival the originals. This one is an excellent example, with breathtaking lyrics by Richard Lam which I myself appreciate more than the original version. The entire work has an entirely new dimension and meaning as a result of such. Yes, Sandy is one of the few HK singers who can master R&B and Jazz. If you like Sandy's songs, then you're lucky coming here, there's more to come =)
DeleteYes that's fine if you refer to me as that (or TAQ if you want to give your fingers a little rest), it is a pen name after all! Now that you mention it, Sandy does have a great versatility in her voice that lets her sing many different genres and she makes it seem so effortless! I actually remember something about her being invited by Andrew Lloyd Weber to sing "Memory" from Cats. Of course, she nailed it. And glad to know that there's more Sandy stuff coming up! :D But as an off topic note, happy holidays!
DeleteTAQ is a cute name =) I always listen to Sandy's City Project series, "Dreamt, Mad, Tired" and "Wildflower", they are my fav albums from her. Apart from her flawless vocal technique, the great composers and arrangers should be commended as well. Thanks, hope you had a nice Christmas, and wish you Happy New Year.
